چکیده

History Scout, a previously healthy, 6-year-old, spayed English springer spaniel show dog, was presented with a 2-month history of progressive incoordination and head tilt. Signs progressed despite treatment with amoxicillin/clavulanic acid for presumptive otitis media or interna. Slight resolution of the head tilt was observed after an anti-inflammatory dose of prednisone. Metronidazole had not been administered. Examination showed a right head tilt, wide-based stance, nodding movement of the head and body (ie, titubation), intention tremors, ambulatory cerebellar ataxia (worse on the right), absent right menace response, mild right facial paresis, and a positional ventrolateral strabismus in the right eye. Neuroanatomical localization was to the right cerebellomedullary angle.

Canine cerebellar protoplasmic astrocytoma: clinical, histopathological and immunohistochemical features

Protoplasmic astrocytomas are uncommon in humans and animals. A 14-year-old, intact female German Shepherd dog presented with a history of ataxia of the pelvic limbs, left-side head torsion and hypermetric response of the right side for approximately 15 days. Neurological examination revealed the presence of cerebellar syndrome and paradoxical vestibular syndrome. Medical therapy was initiated,...

Adult onset supranuclear ophthalmoplegia, cerebellar ataxia, and neurogenic proximal muscle weakness in a brother and sister: another hexosaminidase A deficiency syndrome.

An Ashkenazi Jewish brother and sister developed progressive ataxia and proximal neurogenic muscle weakness, associated with supranuclear ophthalmoplegia, in the fourth decade of life. Hexosaminidase A activity, assayed using both synthetic and natural substrates, was severely reduced in the patients' plasma, leukocytes, and skin fibroblasts. Enzyme activity in their parents was in a similar ra...
